ABOUT MY WORK

Memory echoes the past in the now where its presence may be intense or not, a source of joy or pain. Living in a liminal reality hovering over presence memory recalls absence, spurred on by a sight, a  smell, an odour, a song, or a thought. My artwork navigates around this absence which informs the core of my creative process.

The faces and figures I paint are vectors to blurred impressions, memories and feelings I aim at rendering in an imagined world.  Gestural mark-making and an intuitive sense of colour result in painterly surfaces where fragile beings take form in a mode of expressive figuration.

I started this body of work during the 2020 confinement and presented the first part in a 2022 solo show named LEGATO, a musical term meaning notes played in one breath. As I continue working with this series I discover

new ways of expressing occurrences of absence that never cease to touch me.

ABOUT ME

I am a Canadian expressive figurative painter originally from Quebec City.  I studied drawing and painting at the Visual Art Centre in Montreal and over the years followed numerous workshops with local and international artists. I added encaustic image transfers to my practice and started doing clay sculptures during  stays in Mexico.

My work was shown in many solo and group exhibitions, it was featured in galeries in Toronto, Montreal and Quebec City and it traveled to International Art Fairs in the United States, England and Hong Kong.

I work daily in my studio in Montreal where I live, except during summer months where I paint in Vermont in the garage I transformed into an open air studio.
