November 2025 is at the door but memories of a fruitful summer and my September week in the south of France still makes me smile. |
SMALL PEOPLE
I spent the month of August hand building small clay sculptures totally different than the larger ones I also created in my summer studio. These small people appeared one by one on my table waiting for glazes and firing. They suddenly formed a small community imbued with a distinctive presence. By moving them around and grouping them one with another imaginary stories emerged. Their new conversations inspire me and are being transposed in large oil paintings that will be shown in my solo exhibition in April 2026.

MY SOJOURN IN FRANCE
I delighted in museum and gallery visits for a few days in Paris. David Hockney's spectacular retrospective at Fondation Louis Vuitton had just closed before my arrival but I rediscovered with passion treasures at Musée d'Orsay. Admiring great Bonnards, Van Gogh and others my eye focussed on subtleties that I had not yet noticed...
From Paris I traveled by train to Sauveterre de Bearn in the south of France near the Spanish border. I joined seven other artists to follow a five day clay sculpture workshop where we learned a great deal. But the magic of the experience emerged in the bubble that enveloped us, in the days lived communally and in the all over creativity as the common denominator. A remarquable time that still reverberates in my life daily.

I am now focussing on preparing for my solo show in April 2026. Paintings created over the last two years will be part of the collection as well as my most recent work, including paintings and clay sculptures.
